Thumbs up 'Pazhassi Raja', 'Magadheera' sweep Filmfare Awards


At the 57th Filmfare Awards (South) for 2009 announced on Saturday at a glittering function in Chennai, Mammootty starrer 'Pazhassi Raja' (Malayalam) and Ram Charan Teja's 'Magadheera' (Telugu) netted seven and six awards respectively.



'Pazhassi Raja' netted awards including the ones for best film and best director (Hariharan) in Malayalam. Mammootty was adjudged the best actor and Swetha Menon, the best actress. ONV Kurup was selected as the best lyricist. Kannada actor Ambareesh and Malayali veteran KPAC Lalitha were given lifetime achievement awards.

In Tamil, Prakash Raj and Priyadarshan bagged the best actor and director statuettes for their work in 'Kanchivaram'. Its cameraman Thiru was adjudged the best in Tamil for year 2009. The best Tamil film for the year was 'Nadodigal'.

'Magadheera's awards included those for best film, best music (Keeravani), best actor (Ram Charan) and best director (SS Rajamouli). The best actors' awards in Kannada films went to Ganesh and Priyanka Kothari, while 'Josh' was adjudged the best film and Guruprasad the best director (Yeddelu Manjunatha').

The star studded event was attended by celebs such as Suriya, Mammootty, Shriya Saran, Simbu, Prabhu Deva, Trisha, Vidya Balan, Tamannah, Reemaa Sen, Shankar, KS Ravikumar and producer Dayanidhi Alagiri. Ganesh Venkatraman and Andrea were the comperes of the show. Vineeth, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Padmapriya, Lakshmi Rai and Sameera Reddy were among the artistes who performed at the event.
